TMI Thursday: Do You Believe?

Sean at Just a Jeep Guy started it, now all the cool kids are doing it (The ones I know about are listed in the sidebar).

DO YOU BELIEVE?

… in Coincidence?
* Sure, they happen all the time

… in Magic?
* Looking outside at the brown, deadness and seeing the first sprouts of spring daffodils… it’s a kind of magic.

… in Love at First Sight?
* I believe in LUST at first sight. LOVE comes with mutual respect and commitment.

… in Soul Mates?
* Soul mates are what happens after LUST, but before LOVE549428_429339263820449_2009184215_n

… in Miracles?
* Yes, miracles occur everyday. By which I mean events that aren’t expected in the general course of life but those who are affected by them find some comfort in ascribing their being caused by a deity or cosmic force.

… absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder?
* No, life goes on even when those you love most aren’t in your life. I believe the sentiment they are attempting to communicate is longing. Absence amplifies longing, which people mistake for fondness.

… in Life After Death?
* No

BONUS

… in God?
* No, fundamentalist christianists made sure of that.

100 Bites of Reality

Wantonly stolen from Erik at Gambrinous with Griffonage and Nate, a Buckeye in Virginia.

100DollarBillFrontstock2780

1. Are young at heart, or an old soul?
* I think I’m young at heart. I certainly don’t feel like I’m 43. Of course, this is the first time at that age, so I’m just going with the flow and having as much fun as possible.
2. What makes someone a best friend?
* A best friend is someone who knows your faults and the mistakes of your past, yet sticks with you because they know the best is yet to come. It’s also someone who’ll help you hide the bodies.
3. What Christmas (or Hanukkah) present do you remember the most?
* I got a 10-speed bicycle when I was in 5th or 6th grade. That bike was my ticket to freedom and economic status. It allowed me to get out of the house and see that there were people out in the world who weren’t abusive bastards.
4. Tell me about a movie/song/TV show/play book that has changed your life.
* Like Alex Rogan the teenage character in The Last Starfighter, I thought that the small town trailer park I grew up in, was the only world I’d ever know. One night Alex got a visitor from Alpha Centauri inviting him on an adventure. Alex saves the day and learns there is life beyond the trailer park.
5. Name one physical feature that you like about yourself, and one you dislike.
* I have beautiful deep brown eyes. I hate the fact that I’m a fat tub o’ goo… but I’m working on that.
6. Would you like to reconnect with any friend you've lost contact with?
* Yes… Nick, my buddy from the first couple years of college.
7. What's more important in a relationship: Physical attraction or emotional connection?
* Emotional connection... everything else will fall into place.
8. Name a movie that you knew would be terrible just from reading the title.
* Anything starting with “Harold & Kumar…”
9. What holiday do you most look forward to?
* I really like Thanksgiving because the central theme is being thankful for what you have. Which is why it gets lost in the mad rush of obscene hedonism of Christmas.
10. How is the relationship between you and your parents?
* My mom died of cancer in 1990. I never had a relationship with my dad other than hearing him tell me how worthless I was or physically assaulting me. I tried for years after mom died to make a connection with him. I finally gave up. He wanted to be a lonely, miserable man; he got what he wanted. I haven’t spoke to him in over two years.
11. You've got the TV on, but you're not really watching. What channel is the TV on?
* The Food Network, HGTV or MSNBC.
12. Name a song that never fails to make you happy.
* I really love music of many different genres, so questions asking me for one answer are difficult to answer. Just about any song from Queen, Journey, Tom Petty, Maroon 5, Van Halen, Mumford & Sons…. on and on…
13. You know a least one person name Michael. Tell me about him.
* I just went through my contacts list, I don’t currently know a Michael.
14. Have you ever read "Missed Connection" on Craigslist? Have ever posted one, or wanted to?indigo-12-west
* I’ve read them, but I haven’t posted one.
15. If you could pick anywhere to live the rest of your life, where would it be?
* I really want to travel and see the wonderful places I see on the Travel Channel, particularly Eastern Europe, Great Britain and Australia. But at the end of the day, I would want to live in a stylish condo in the Pearl District of Portland. Specifically, Indigo 12 West.
16. Can money buy happiness?
* No, but it certainly helps.
17. Do you drink? Smoke? Do drugs? Why, or why not?
* I drink socially, and occasionally just because I want the world to go away. I enjoy good beers, the Northwest has the best microbrews 803290_10151541179933833_1638354140_nand I can proudly say that I have not let mass market swill pass my lips since 2007. When I’m at a bar with friends, Gin & Tonic is my choice. I tried to smoke cigarettes in college, but it didn’t take. A couple years ago I discovered the joy of a good cigar. As far as drugs go… I have enjoyed an occasional smoke of pot.
18. Is there anyone close to you that you know you can't trust. You don't have to give names?
* If I cannot trust them, they are no longer close to me. I’ve had some very bad experiences with people who I called “friend”.
19. Where was your favorite place to go when you were a little kid?
* The nature of my childhood prevented me from having too much freedom. Generally, my room was my sanctuary, that is until violence forced itself into the room. I also had a good friend whose home I was able to escape to for short periods of time. It gave me a glimpse into how what I thought a normal family behaved.
20. Have you ever spent the night in the hospital?
* No… although, when I was in a car accident in 2005, I was transferred to a larger regional hospital after dark. I had surgery to clean and stich my wounds through the night and was released as the sun was coming up. So, maybe that counts.
21. Do you enjoy being with only one or two friends, or with a large group of people.
* Generally I enjoy a small group of friends. The core group are my closest friends, with the possibility that the larger group are at the acquaintance level.
22. Do you like the type of music your parents listen to? Do your parents like the type of music you listen to?
* I guess I do. They always listened to Country music when I was a kid. In fact they listened to the same station my Uncle had on in his milk barn. I remember thinking that was the only kind of music that came out of a radio. That is until I discovered KISS, Styx and Queen.
23. Have you every been bullied. Have you every bullied anyone else?welcome-help-with-bullying
* I was bullied through middle and high school by the same douchebags. I hated riding the bus and would “miss the bus” and walk the five miles to my house. When the weather was nice, I would ride my bike, one day I came around the corner of the building to where the rack was located. They were waiting for me; lunging out and pushing me from the bike… I sustained a concussion (this was pre-bike helmet), a broken arm and a lot of road rash. Enduring the daily terrorism for five years helps me to understand the dark place kids can go who decide to take a gun to school. I remember thinking about it; not to get a large body count, just those three douchebags.
24. If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
* Ribeye Steak, baked potato, seasonal veggies and fresh bread; paired with a nice Willamette Valley wine.
25. If your partner wanted to wait until marriage before having sex, would you stay in that relationship?
* No
26. Do you believe in a god?
* I did once, but reality has convinced me otherwise.
27. Of all the social networks in the world, why use Twitter?
* I have a twitter account… but I never use it.
28. What's your favorite hashtag to track?trailer-park
* See the answer to question 27.
29. Would you call yourself/your family "middle class"?
* Growing up, we were definitely lower class… living in a trailer park, wearing 2nd hand store clothes… plus there’s that aura that you’re different, or less-than your peers. I’m not sure if this is part of what fed the bullies, or this in combination with being fat, socially awkward, and damaged. Now… I would be solidly middle-class if the X didn’t see to it through court ordered poverty (child support) that I still live in poverty.
30. Name a TV series you didn't enjoy until after it ended.
* I scanned my brain, for something other than Star Trek, but came up with nothing.
31. Have you every bought a product from an infomercial?
* No, but there have been a few that I’ve thought “I MUST HAVE THAT!” Then I remember that I’m an anti-hoarder who routinely takes a bag or two of just that type of stuff to Goodwill.
32. If you could give up your car and never drive again, would you?
* Yes, if I lived in a city with a proper mass transit system. I actually went without a car for six months in 2011, relying on coworkers for a ride to work and friends for a trip to the grocery was maddening. I did buy a taxi on a few desperate times, but $8 a pop was ridiculous to me.
33. If you could go back to one point in time to give advice to yourself, when would you go and what would you say?mqdefault
* I would go back to the spring of 1991 and convince myself that it would be ok to be gay and the effort to nail the closet door shut would be damaging to numerous people in my life.
34. What's your "quirkiest" habit?
* I don't have any...hate those kinds of things. I used to have a funny walk, but it bothered me so much, I changed it.
35. What is "normal?" Are you normal?
* When I was young all I wanted to be was “normal”. I have since learned that “normal” is a label that others put ON you. Basically, normal is a setting on the dryer. Do I look like a dryer? In the words of Dr. Seuss, “Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind”.
36. Someone close to you is dying. You have the choice to let this person live for 10 more years, but if you do, you cause the death of 10 strangers. You don't have to see them die. Do you take the offer?
* To everything there is a season… Turn Turn Turn
37. What is the one thing you could never forgive?
* I don’t forgive those who have screwed me over. There is no chance to “fool me twice”.
38. Would you rather be in a relationship after the honeymoon period ends, or be single.
* I believe I’ll take the relationship,Alex.
39. Is it possible for guys and girls to be just friends?
* Of course.
40. Where do you and your friends go to hang out?
* Usually at someone's house. Sometimes we go to the Midway, a nice little bar here in town.
41. Write the first sentence of your obituary.
* His favorite quote was “Be ashamed to die until you’ve won a small victory for mankind”, it’s really too bad he had such a short time to enjoy it.

* I was able to attend my first PRIDE in Portland, OR.
48. You win a scratch-off lottery game that give you $2000 a week (after taxes) for the rest of your life. Do you keep working?
* Not in my present job, no. I would be able to take a job that I enjoy without regard for the income.
49. Could you be in a long-distance relationship? If you're in one, what makes yours work?
* I have been in a couple long-distance relationships, they didn’t work out. So it is not my preference.

* Show respect, understanding, I need to feel cherished.

56. Do you know what makes you happy?
* Being satisfied with my place in life.

* I am currently reading “Dead Until Dark” by Charlaine Harris. It is the first novel in the Sookie Stackhouse novels on which the series True Blood is based.
8. What is the nicest compliment you've ever been given?
* “Without you, I would still be an addict and I wouldn’t have my children. I will always be grateful for you in my life."
59. Who was your first crush?
* I have no idea.
60. Do you believe that there is life on other plants?
* Sure, why not? Of course, I would need to know your definition of life.
61. Predict what your life will look like a year from now.
* As I have a tendency to worry about things that may not be; I really do try to live life day by day. I have made goals for 2013, depending on how those work out, I will make goals for 2014 and so on.
62. Often, people will ask how your last relationship ended. I want to know how it began. GP-Logo-small
* My last lengthy relationship ended because he was stealing money from our joint account and he was cheating on me. This was the last straw in making the “fool me once” policy. I felt like such an idiot for letting him talk me out of what I knew when the evidence said otherwise.
63. Where is your favorite place to go out and eat?
* I love to go to The Great Pacific in Pendleton, OR. It’s a hometown owned place that serves 100’s of microbrews and regional wines. It also serves great sandwiches, salads, coffee and brick oven pizzas. Plus, they have great live bands just about every weekend.
64. What is something you want to change about your current situation?
* I don’t want to get into all the labyrinths of issues that are involved in my current situation,the primary issue (as I mentioned before) is my lack of money. * Civil War – Guns n’ Roses.
69. Where do you live?
* Hermiston, OR

* No

* I’m really trying to leave that stuff in the past and not dwell on it. So, I’m sure the last person with whom I was angry was most likely one of my exes. senior_fitness2
79. Do you want to live until your 100?
* Based on family history I should live into my 90’s. This is one of the primary motivators of my weight loss efforts. If I live to an advanced age, I don’t want to do it in a wheelchair or in a nursing home.
80. Do people change? If so, how do you keep a relationship together when both of you start to change?
* People change, if that is understood in a relationship, then the two people would be working through change together and accepted by both. If one is naturally growing and evolving, but the other is stagnant or moving in a different direction then the relationship will be hard to maintain. .
81. Have you ever risked a friendship by telling someone you liked them?

* I don’t know. I wonder if I’ll ever know.
92. Would you want to know the exact date and time you were going to die?
* No.
93. Where is "home" for you?
* I guess that would be where I grew up, but I don’t consider it home.
94. What song best describes your life right now?
*

Sunday Stealing: Firsts

Today we ripped off a blogger named Paul Burgin from the blog Mars Hill. It is 20 questions, He says he got it from Paul Linford. But, it was probably stolen there as well. So, of course, that will be as far as we go. Tracing back our theft's thieves might take some time. Take the time to comment on other player's posts. It's a great way to make new friends! Link back to us at Sunday Stealing!

  • First Job: Dishwasher at a buffet style restaurant. It was the most disgusting experience of my life. I’m skeptical of them to this day.
  • First Real Job: I had to really think about this one… what constitutes a “real job”? The first job I was paid on salary was as a full-time overnight DJ at a country station in Corvallis, OR. 1964_Rambler_Classic_770[4]
  • First Volunteer Job: Driving the church bus to pick up bilingual and monolingual Mexican kids for an outreach program. The program gave the kids lunch and provided social services to their families as the needs arose.
  • First Car: A 1964 AMC Rambler Classic
  • First Record: On vinyl – Purple Rain Soundtrack On cassette – Reckless by Bryan Adams
  • First Sport Played: Baseball
  • First Concert: My parents took me to see The Statler Brothers at the fair when I was a kid. The first concert of my own choosing was Poison in 1986.
  • First Country Visited: Canada
  • First Kiss:My cousin at age 13 or 14. My first kiss with a girl was the woman I was to marry; other than my daughters, she is still the only woman I’ve ever kissed.
  • First Speech: I had a horrible stuttering problem in school. I gave many painful speeches in English class. It wasn’t until college that I took a speech class from a man who gave me the tools to overcome it. I still stutter when I’m stressed or nervous.
  • First Girlfriend/Boyfriend: I had the typical socially constructed ‘girlfriend’ in the 7th grade. It was a relationship that was made up of notes and sitting together at lunch. My first ‘real’ girlfriend was the woman I would marry. I count a guy named Mark as my first boyfriend. He was married, as I was. We saw each other for almost a year. Bill_Mo_Me
  • First Encounter with a Famous Person: I got to interview a number of famous people on my radio show from 2004-06; including Sen. Gordon Smith (R-OR) and other politicians. The most famous person I met was basketball legend Bill Walton. (that’s me between Mr. Walton and Maurice Lucas)
  • First Brush With Death:In 2005, I was in a single vehicle roll-over accident caused by speeding. I was driving a 1973 Ford pickup. I was knocked unconscious, my left wrist was crushed and the right side of my head was nearly scraped off. If I’d been wearing a seatbelt, I would have been dead.
  • First House/Flat Owned:I have not owned property yet.TGposter
  • First Film Seen at a Cinema: My parents told me the first movie I saw was True Grit in 1969 at the Salem (OR) Drive-In.
  • First Media Appearance (Radio, Newspaper, TV): Radio – The local station did a Thanksgiving special with school children recording a bit about the history of the holiday. I was in the 2nd grade, it wasn’t pretty (see previous statement about stuttering). Newspaper – I remember being in photos for the local paper at various community events. TV – I’ve been spotted in the crowd at various events. Most notably, part of the Bon Jovi video for Bad Medicine was filmed at the BSU Pavilion in Boise, ID. I used to be able to spot my location in the crowd.
  • First Hospital Stay:The first one I recall was for breaking my arm in the 8th grade.
  • First Book You Remember Reading: The Island of Dr. Moreau – HG Wells.
  • First Pet: a doggie named Tippy
  • First Election You Voted In: I’m certain I voted in 1987 when I turned 18, but the first major election I remember is the 1988 Presidential election. I voted for George H.W. Bush.

Saturday 9: Call Me Maybe

  1. Do you owe anyone a phone call?
    * Yes
  2. Do you still have a landline phone?
    * Yes, I held off the “bundled” offers to include a phone from Charter as long as I could. I kept telling them I didn’t need a land line and they would give me a modified bundle of TV and Internet. This past fall when I was calling for a new “1-year deal” they wouldn’t budge on the phone. The only calls I ever get on it are telemarketers and wrong numbers.
  3. When was the last time you looked up a number in the phone book?
    image_preview
    * I use the phone book frequently at work to get local numbers. For long distance, of course I use Google.
  4. Do you receive more calls or texts?
    * Texts. After 22 days of this month, I’ve used 637 texts.
  5. Carly Rae made the Final 3 on Canadian Idol. Can you name another cultural import from Canada?
    * Wayne Gretzky, Paul Schaeffer, and Alan Thicke.
  6. Sam (the author of this meme) grew sick of this song by hearing it too often on the radio. Where do you listen to the radio most often? Car? Work? Somewhere else?
    * At home and at work I listen to my iPod… I listen to the radio in the car… and the insipid commercials. My alarm clock is set to wake me up to NPR.
  7. Mother Winters (Sam’s mother) can work wonders with an iron and a can of spray starch. Every blouse and shirt she presses looks good as new. Is there a domestic chore you excel at?male-maid
    * I’m really good at just keeping the place tidy… which is easy when the kids aren’t here. It would be even easier if I had someone to lend a hand –>
  8. Do you consider yourself competitive?
    * I can be… if the task is one I value… or the competition is one I wish to vanquish.
  9. Tell us your superhero name -- as determined by the color of your shirt and an item to your right. For example, Crazy Sam now fights crime as The Light Blue Coffee Mug!
    * Purple Coffee Mug!

TMI Thursday: I just want to go to sleep

Gary in BedSean at Just a Jeep Guy started it, now all the cool kids are doing it (The ones I know about are listed in the sidebar). 565440_10151460124728833_2126441820_n

I JUST WANNA GO TO SLEEP:

  1. What do you wear to bed?
    * Nothing
  2. Who or what sleeps with you at night?
    * Reuben (l) & Ms. Cleo (r)
    730009_10151533908398833_679446395_o
  3. Do you like a cold room or a hot room?
    * I like the room to be a bit chilly. In the winter, I have the furnace vents blocked and the window is open. In the summer time, I have fans blowing on me; when the nighttime temp is in the 70’s, It’s still not enough..
  4. Lots of blankets or just one?
    * In the winter, I have an IKEA duvet (pictured with the kitties), a regular blanket, and a quilt in reserve. One day I hope to have a bear to snuggle with regularly; maybe I wont need as many blankets? In the summer time, I have to have at least a sheet.
  5. Do you hog the blankets?
    * When I was a closet case, my wife and I shared a bed, but not blankets (I wonder what went wrong?). The regular bed partners I’ve had since haven’t said anything, but then we liked being close to one another.
  6. What size is your bed and what kind of mattress is it?
    * I have a Simmons® queen sized mattress.
  7. Do you eat in bed?
    * Well… not FOOD. insomnia-green-guy[3]
  8. What kind of sleeper are you?
    * I used to be able to say that I was a heavy sleeper who didn’t have any issues. Over the last year, I’ve become an insomniac. I’ll sleep for an hour or so, then wake without being able to fall back to sleep for 2-3 hours. Occasionally, if I’m stressing over something, I’ll have to operate on 1-2 hours.
  9. What is under your bed?
    * The same thing that’s under your bed… Monsters!

BONUS

What won't you do in bed?

  • Peel potatoes
  • Repack the bearings on a hub.
  • Eat BBQ ribs
  • Anything with a woman
  • Have a board meeting
  • Talk about med side-effects
  • Ask “Is it in yet?”
  • Set off fireworks… figurative ones are always going off.

Well, I never!

h2D815B59I’m really having a good time with this band of blog buddies…
This one was wantonly stolen from Nate at A Buckeye in Virginia, Cubby at Patently Queer, Jim at Jim’s Stuff and Buddy Bear at One Step at a Time.
I remember a game similar to this (I think we all do) from back in my reckless youth where one member of the group states something they’ve never done. If anyone in the group has done it, they drink. If only one person drinks, then they have to tell the tale.
So, in order to make this work in the blogosphere, leave a comment swearing that you’ve taken a shot, tell what you drank and share a story of one of the things on my list that you’ve done (capice?)
  1. …been to Disneyland
  2. …seen ET (the Spielberg movie, not the “celebrity news” show)
  3. …participated in BDSM

Details… Details… Details…

obama-startled

TMI Thursday’s is a sensation that is sweeping the nation. Thanks to the brilliant mind of Sean at Just a Jeep Guy, which inspires participation from a number of my fellow bloggers including Cubby, Loki, Kelly, Buddy Bear, Nate, and Erik.

This past Thursday the list of questions was an extensive list of sexual activities and conquests. You can take a look at my answers HERE. Be warned, it is Not Safe for Work… or narrow minded religious bigots.

A couple of my commenters have wanted details about certain questions. Far be it from me to deny my legions of fans. If you want to know more about certain items. Post their numbers in the comment section below and I will answer them as candidly as possible.

Sunday Stealing: Basically Obscure II.5

Part I – HERE

Part II – HERE

38: How did you spend Valentines day?
* My thoughts on Valentine’s Day can be found HERE. Otherwise, I worked and then spent the evening doing laundry. bustin-out1
39: Do you eat enough vegetables?
* I don’t… I’m working on adding more fruits and veggies into my diet. It’s part of my effort to make myself half the man I am now.
40: Do you like horror movies? How about thrillers?
* I enjoy classic horror films, ones that leave the fear to the imagination. The movies they call horror films now leave nothing to the imagination, they are essentially snuff films. Thrillers, like Taken, any of the Fast & Furious films and of course the best Bond film of all time… Skyfall!
41: Do you like scotch?
* Mm, I love scotch. I love scotch. Scotchy, scotch, scotch. Here it goes down. Down into my belly. Mm-mm-mm."
42: Who is someone you would never swear in front of?
* I would never swear in front of my Grandma… everyone else gets it uncensored.
43: Coolest thing you've ever seen on Halloween?
* I believe that if teenagers want to trick-or-treat I’ll give them candy. In 2009 I told a couple teenaged boys who appeared at my door wearing their standard clothing they should try harder, put on a wig or something. In 2010 those same boys came back to my place in full drag and they looked GOOD. They said, “remember us? you told us to try harder; how did we do?” I had a couple momentary sinful thoughts… and gave them all the candy they wanted. 5041118345a6414366852l
44: If you could change your natural hair color, would you? To what?
* Nah, I’m good with what I have. Although, Dame Edna does give me some inspiration.
45: What subject would you take if you were forced to take a free class?
* I thoroughly enjoy anything to do with history or philosophy. But, right now I could really use a class in grant writing.
46: Do you use a reusable grocery bags?
* I have them, but I find having plastic bags more beneficial when I scoop the kitty litter box. That way I can easily transport the nastiness to the dumpster as I leave in the morning.
47: City or nature person?
* I wish I lived nearer to a city for the culture and entertainment factors. But I need to get out into nature to recharge or to process my thoughts.
48: Have you ever used something other than "makeup" as makeup? (Like paint? Markers?)
* I don’t recall having used either.
49: Do heights bother you? can look look out the window on the top floor of a skyscraper? tumblr_mcj316E1hn1rge74zo1_500
* Heights in a plane, very tall building or even the Space Needle; don’t bother me. But the idea of skydiving or being very high with no visible means of support scares the hell out of me. There is an ad on TV right now that shows a lady rock climbing to a very high, very thin rock formation and standing there… absolutely no way!
50: Post 5 awesome things about your blog. BRAG AWAY!
* You never know what you’re going to get.
* You will get brutal honesty.
* It’s blue
* I’m damn funny.
* Sexy too!

Saturday 9: Pour Some Sugar On Me

  1. Do you have a favorite "hair metal band?"
    * As with any “favorite” list, I do not have just one… Bon Jovi, Warrant, Great White, Def Leppard, Poison, Motley Crue.
  2. Def Leppard got their start in South Yorkshire, England. Have you ever been to the UK?wenn3488150
    * It is certainly on my Bucket List. More than that, I’ve looked at the process of moving there. It would be expensive, but the Social Work jobs there are plentiful and pay much better than they do here in the States.
  3. Who would you rather chat with, one-on-one: Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Prince William or Prince Harry?
    * Prince Harry…. sigh!
  4. Do you use real sugar, or a sugar substitute?
    * I try to keep things as close to “natural” as possible. Everything in moderation. Sugar only has 16 calories per teaspoon. Every sugar substitute is a miracle at first, then they discover that it will cause you to bleed out your anus or sprout a third eye.
  5. Valentine's Day is big for candy sales. Did you indulge in any Valentine-themed, sugary treats this week?
    * Not this year, VD took place on Thursday, which is weigh-in day at WeightWatchers. I plan on hitting Walmart later to see if anything is left in the clearance aisle.
  6. Do you regularly balance your checkbook?
    * I use Quicken software, it’s easy to make sure the balance is accurate.
  7. What was your last impulse purchase?
    * When I was last in Salem, I was about to leave the bar when this guy came in, there was eye contact… I bought another Gin & Tonic and ended up exchanging numbers and…
  8. When Sam was a girl, she had nightmares about snakes under her bed. When did you last have a bad dream?
    * Its been a while. I have a standard “bad dream” that occurs when I need to make a decision, but I’m avoiding it. The dream involves some clandestine late night meeting logowith a guy who scares me, but I’m compelled to meet because there are consequences if I don’t. This dream includes sleep walking, and I have woke up outdoors a couple times.
  9. We're ordering pizza. Do you want deep dish or thin crust?
    * It depends on my mood. Most recently, I ordered the deep dish pizza from Domino’s. It’s pretty tasty.

Sunday Stealing: Basically Obscure Pt. II

See Part I here.

Today we ripped off a writer named Chloerockchick from the group zetaboards. It is 50 questions we will do it in 2.5 parts, She does not say who she got it from. But, it was probably stolen there as well. So, of course, that will be as far as we go. Tracing back our theft's thieves might take some time. Take the time to comment on other player's posts. It's a great way to make new friends! Link back to us at Sunday.

  1. Would you swear in front of your parents?
    * My mom, absolutely not. My dad… who the fuck cares?!
  2. Which continents have you been on?
    * Just this one… so far.
  3. Do you get motion sickness? Any horror stories?th
    * I get queasy if I try to read while riding in the back seat, but no horror stories. Like Seinfeld, I avoid vomiting at all costs (bonus points if you get that reference).
  4. Why did you name your blog whatever you named your blog?
    * Adam Savage of Mythbusters would say, “I reject your reality and substitute my own”. When I started my blog in 2006 (link in the sidebar), I was trying to come up with a catchy name. I happened to be watching Mythbusters and history was made.
  5. Would you wear a rainbow jacket? A neon yellow sweater? Checkered pants?
    * There would have to be some kind of incentive. Otherwise, not until I’m senile and don’t care anymore.
  6. What was your favorite cartoon growing up? Post a picture if you can.
  7. In a past life I must have been a...
    * I can see myself as a Pre-Renaissance Academician… the holder of knowledge in a time when the church kept much of the world in darkness. Then, as today, knowledge is the antidote to the willing ignorance required for religious zealotry.
  8. If you had to look at one city skyline for the rest of your life, which would it be?
    * Portland, Oregon
    portland-oregon-1-592nm071610
  9. Longest plane ride you've ever been on?
    * From PDX to LAX to ZLO.
  10. The longest you've ever slept?
    * On average, I sleep 6-8 hours. Longer than that and I have headaches. andy_rooney
  11. Would you buy a sweater covered in kitten pictures? Would you wear it if someone gave it you for free?
    * I wouldn’t buy one, but I would wear it if I had to… if the motivation was right.
  12. Do you pluck your eyebrows?
    * No, but I trim them to keep them from becoming too Andy Rooney-like.
  13. Favorite kind of bean? Kidney? Black? Pinto?
    * I like mixing up my beans in soups; given these to choose from, I’ll take black beans.
  14. How far can you throw a baseball?
    * Maybe 30-50 feet.
  15. If you had to move to another country, where would you move?
    * If I “had” to move, it would probably be someplace dreadful like Korea. If I had a choice, it would be Canada, England or Scotland.
  16. Have you ever eaten Ethiopian food? Vietnamese? Korean? Nepalese? How was it?
    * Yes, with the exception of Nepalese. I consider myself a foodie. I enjoy trying new foods and experiencing new cultures.
  17. How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
    * 42, because beaver’s can’t wear pants.

Saturday 9: The Way We Were

  1. In honor of Valentine's Day next week, what's the most romantic movie you can think of? * What About Bob? – The way Bob and Lily get together in the end against all odds, allows me to think maybe there’s someone out there for me. My overall opinion of Valentine’s Day can be found HERE.
  2. The Way We Were was a tearjerker. Do you think that most real-life love stories end in heartbreak? Or do you believe in happily ever after?* Yes, I believe in it, but “happily ever after” is a daily thing. You can have a long-term view of pointing your rocking chairs toward the sunset years, but if you aren’t romancing your partner during the daily grind, those golden years aren’t going to be much to look forward to.
  3. What's your favorite love song?* This version of You Belong with Me…
  4. In 1993, Barbra Streisand married actor James Brolin, who first became famous as Dr. Steven Kiley on Marcus Welby, MD. Who is your favorite TV doctor?
    * Dr. Doug RossDD17838D75DAF09E91719785827E1C
  5. In 2012, Streisand renewed her contract with Columbia, where's she's been recording since 1963. So she's been with the same label for fifty years! Where have you worked the longest, and how long was that? * I worked for a community mental health organization for over six years. I started as a weekend staffer at a group home and ended up as the manager of a similar facility.
  6. Sam Winters (author of this meme) once worked as a hostess in a chic bistro in Worcester, PA. That's why she frequently gets frustrated by bad service in restaurants -- she's certain she could make it run more smoothly. Where do you find yourself getting annoyed most often?
    fox-newsfaux-news-poster* The people who gleefully wallow in ignorance and the “public officials” who pander to their idiocy.
  7. Have you ever taken a polygraph test?
    * Nope
  8. Crunchy, smooth or organic peanut butter? * Extra Chunky Jif… nothing is better.
  9. Describe your favorite sweater.* I’m a fat man… they shouldn’t wear sweaters.

TMI Thursday: Happy Valentine’s Day

My blog-buddy, Sean at Just a Jeep Guy started it, now all the cool kids are doing it (The ones I know about are listed in the sidebar).

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY:

  1. What do you think of Valentine's Day?
    * Claire sums it up perfectly. If that isn’t enough, there’s this…

    consumerist3vv
  2. Are you romantic?
    * Absolutely. It is one of the typical qualities of a Cancerian.

    b9d362eecec8534f7f992b03b82c9045
  3. Candy or Flowers?
    * I abhor the whole concept of Valentine’s day. It says that since you don’t think about doing things or getting gifts for your lover the other 364 days, Corbis-LK006407you should spend $60/dozen for roses when they’re $20 any other time of the year and you should buy 10 lbs of chocolate and spend $50 on an obscenely large stuffed gorilla. Oh and you should rent a limo, and buy lobster for dinner… basically it is the same pointless consumerism and guilt that goes with Christmas without the religious underpinnings.
  4. What is Valentine's Day like when you're single?
    *Its like any other Thursday. Only you can’t go to any grocery store because desperate men are all clogging up the check stands with overpriced flowers and ridiculously large boxes of candy or stuffed animals.
  5. What do you plan on doing this Valentine's Day?
    * At work I’ve got to prepare adoption reports on two clients. Since it’s Thursday, I’ll be doing the next TMI Thursday and watching Big Bang Theory and Glee.

    Big_Bang_Theory_Valentine_7_by_RWBloodyHell
  6. Your relationship is ending, do you break up before or after?
    * Before… so that there is not the obligatory ‘discussion’ that comes with my opinion over this contrived ‘holiday’.
    cupid-valentines-day1
  7. What was your WORST Valentine's Day?
    * I have zero expectations.
  8. What was your BEST Valentine's Day?
    * One time my X-wife sent a flower to me at work. tmi

BONUS

Do you expect to have sex because it's Valentine's Day

When I’m seeing someone I expect sex most days. If we’re going to buy into the Valentine's dogma… it better be so head board rattling sex that I’m walking funny for a few days.

He's Guilty!

This has been quite a week for those of us who work with sex offenders and their victims. Bill Cosby; "Americas' Dad", was ...
