Saturday 9: Suit & Tie

  1. 995818_10151771837623833_1419102745_nWhen was the last time that you got dressed up, or to borrow from Mr. Timberlake, "fixed up to the nines?"
** Last Tuesday for a job interview.
  2. Justin Timberlake is known for his threads. Do you try to keep up with fashion trends?
** I wish! Maybe if I had the budget for it… and weighed considerably less.
  3. While on tour, Justin has a cigar roller on call so that he and the band can enjoy a "gentleman's club" atmosphere back stage. Do you enjoy the smell of a good cigar?
** I do enjoy a good cigar now and then.
  4. Justin appeared on Star Search when still in grade school, and he's been working ever since. When Crazy Sam was that age, her only "job" was to load the dishwasher and for this she earned her $1/day allowance. Did you work when you were a kid?
** I tormented my sister and tried not to get caught. Generally I was a failure at the latter.
  5. chris-farley-3JT has appeared several times on Saturday Night Live, a show that premiered before he was born. Who is your most favorite ever SNL cast member of all time?
** That is hard to answer. I’ve been watching regularly since the early-80’s. If I had to choose right now… Chris Farley
  6. Justin is a very good golfer (6 handicap). Will you play this summer?
** I’ve tried to play in the past, but I don’t get to do it often enough to make it worthwhile.
  7. A round of golf requires hours outside in the elements. Have you ever endured a painful sunburn?Razr 436
** I don’t really burn. I have occasionally, but not for a very long time. Avoiding it just takes a bit of common sense.
  8. When they were young, Justin dated Britney Spears. Obviously, it's been easy for him to keep up with her successes and problems over the years. Do you wonder how one of your exes is doing?
    ** Nope
  9. Ever since his days with N'Sync, Justin Timberlake has supported music education. Did your grade school offer music classes? If so, do you remember any of the songs you learned then?
** I took guitar lessons for two years. I don’t know that I remember anything about how to play.

TMI Thursday: Good Morning

Sean at Just a Jeep Guy started it, now all the cool kids are doing it (The ones I know about are listed in the sidebar).

GOOD MORNING!

  • How many times do you hit the snooze button?
    • If I started allowing myself to hit the snooze button, I would make it to work around 10. My alarm is set to NPR; the talking doesn’t allow me to go back to sleep… at least that’s the plan.
  • What's the first 5 things you do after waking?
    • Take off the CPAP mask
    • Check my phone
    • Check out the quality of the new porn on Tumblr
    • Enjoy the quality of said porn
    • Hit the shower
  • How do you like your coffee?
    • If it’s quality coffee, black. If it needs help, I’ll put in a little creamer
  • How do you like your eggs?
    • Over Easy
  • Exercise: Morning, noon or night or not at all?
    • Evening
  • Do you do brunch?
    • When I have someone to brunch with… yes.

BONUS

  • How do you like morning sex?
    • Morning sex is THE BEST. Why waste morning wood?

The Journey

There's a tab above that lists 100 reasons why I want to and need to lose weight, and if you click on Rejected Reality (classic) in the right bar, you will see how I blogged my previous weight lost journey. A journey that resulted in this...
Summer 2008 - 250 lbs.
A lot of stuff has happened in my life since that picture was taken. I've spent the last year trying to catch lightning in a bottle again without success. Last month I went to the doctor and he told me that I'm pre-diabetic and I'm also showing signs of other weight related health issues. I've thought about weightloss surgery in the past, in fact I was trying to qualify for it back in 2006 when I ended up doing it on my own. I talked to my doctor about it and he agreed that it would be a good idea to pursue that tool. He wrote me a letter of medical necessity to send to the insurance.

The insurance pre-qualified me and I heard from OWLS today to schedule my first pre-op appointment on July 19th.

Join me as I chronicle this journey.... again.

Weekend in Idaho

I grew up in a very redneck small town on the Idaho-Oregon border. There are more remote corners of the Oregon Outback; but this corner of Oregon is not only 375 miles from Portland, but in a separate time zone from the rest of the state had one redeeming quality, a 40 minute drive to Boise.
I went to high school here a hundred years ago
Its a place where people fly flags like this...
The flag reads, "America - Love it or Leave it"
I hear they serve good food... and guns...  but its closed on Sunday...

Sandwiches, Fireworks, Flags and... GUNS!
I cannot see myself  living there again, but there is a comfortable feeling that sweeps over me when I go back. On a number of occasions this weekend I found myself making fun of the overwhelming Red-State culture; I found myself realizing that these are my people, this is the culture in which I lived my formative years.
Enjoying a bonfire by moonlight
There are pockets of progressive thought, especially around Boise. But at the end of the day these are salt of the earth people. I spent my Sunday morning at a Junior Girls Rodeo at the Payette County Fairgrounds. A place where parents and family gather to watch girls get their reps in the rodeo arts in preparation for hopefully qualifying for the Snake River Stampede one day. I watched adorable little girls in their finest tentatively enter the arena and jump from their horses to tie-down a goat, or to lasso a runaway steer. I heard that there would be a competition on July 6-7 at the same arena to choose those who will do the pre-show entertainment at the 2013 Stampede. I am hopeful that I could go back.
My best friend still lives in that world, his daughter was one of the girls we were cheering for this morning. We lament that we don't get together more often even though its only a 3-hour drive.

It felt good to be "home"... once again this afternoon we made promises to not wait so long.

PS... I couldn't ad a caption to the burger. I got it from a place in Notus, ID called The Garage. It was delicious! I mean... look at the bacon hanging out! They featured The Hemi Challenge... 2 lb burger, 1 lb of fries and a shake for $25. If you finish, it's free.

Why should we care?

Christian groups vow to refuse gay marriage even if it’s legalized

Perhaps the biggest issue that turned me off on the church is how it enforces the rules for membership in their club... they're entirely situational and dependent upon your station in life. I don't give a flying fuck what they think of my life, I spilled a lot of tears trying to fit in and couldn't.

Should I ever get married again... it will NOT be in one of their clubhouses, so it doesn't really matter whether they refuse or not. I hope I live to see the day that their relevance to our society is in the dustbin of history along with separate water fountains and whalebone corsets.

The question is... why would you want to force your way into a club that doesn't want you as a member?
